The process of moving to Canada doesn’t end the minute you secure your visa. Of course, that is a major part of the entire process, but you still need to do so many things.

One of them is ensuring that you have everything you’ll need to get into the city and survive within the city.

We’ve taken our time to compile a comprehensive list of all you could need to pack. Keep in mind that you’ll need to take out these items quickly at the airport to get through airport security. So, it’s important that you keep them in places that are well within reach. They are:

Important Travel Documents

  1. Passport
  2. Visa
  3. Work permit, among other immigration documents  applicable
  4. A balance letter from your bank
  5. Proof of your travel insurance if you have one
  6. Your CV/resume if you’ll be staying in Canada long enough to need a job. You must format your CV according to Canadian standards if you’re going to get a job there.
  7. A form of identification, like your National Identity Card or your Driver’s License.
  8. Student transcripts if you’re still a student

Personal Effects

  1. A written address of your destination in Canada. This will help prevent having to struggle to find your way across the city after a lengthy and potentially stressful trip.
  2. Drug prescriptions, if any
  3. A warm pair of gloves, a scarf and other winter gear if you plan to arrive in Canada during the winter
  4. Some Canadian currency so that you’re not strapped for cash before you can learn your way enough to get more
  5.  Electronic Travel Authorization
  6.  Clothing
  7. Toiletries e.g. Soap, shampoo, lip balm, HAND SANITIZER, body lotion, shaving cream, tampon/sanitary towel, etc. All these are important in case you do not find your favourite brands in Canada.
  8. A book to read/your travel guide
  9. Numbers of friends and family members you’ll like to visit

Beyond these, there are other things that you’ll need to pack when you’re moving to Canada. However, they’re largely dependent on the specifics of your journey as an individual and we can’t cover them all.

To ensure you leave nothing behind, make a personal list in addition to all we’ve mentioned. Then, start packing days/weeks ahead of schedule while ticking off the items on your list.
