Chevening is the UK Government’s scholarship for international students, aimed at producing global leaders. It is a fully funded scholarship for Master’s degree programmes.
Applications for 2021/22 (the academic year which starts in September 2021) are closed, but those for 2022/23 (academic year starting in September 2022) will be open from 3 August 2021 and may last for only three months.

The Chevening scholarship is awarded to people from all over the world for a chance to study in the UK and develop the skills and the connections that will enable them to build a successful career wherever they might be.
What are the Benefits of a Chevening Scholarship?
Apart from the chance to study and build important connections in one of the world’s leading countries, a Chevening scholarship offers:
- full university tuition fees
- a monthly stipend
- travel costs to and from the UK
- an arrival allowance
- a homeward departure allowance
- the cost of one visa application
- a travel grant to attend Chevening events in the UK
Eligibility
To be eligible to study in the UK with the Chevening scholarship you must:
- Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory. Click here to find a list of eligible countries.
- Return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your award has ended.
- Have completed all components of an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry onto a postgraduate programme at a UK university by the time you submit your application. This is typically equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honours degree in the UK but may be different depending on your course and university choice.
- Have at least two years (equivalent to 2,800 hours) of work experience. Find out more about work experience requirements here.
- Apply to three different eligible UK university courses and have received an unconditional offer from one of these choices by 15 July 2021.
You are not eligible for a Chevening scholarship if you:
- Have previously studied in the UK with funding from a UK Government-funded scholarship.
How to Apply
Applications for the Chevening scholarship open on 3 August 2021. But you must also separately apply for a programme at a UK university. You are allowed to apply for up to three courses at either the same university or at most three different ones.
To receive a Chevening scholarship, you must first receive an unconditional offer from a UK university for one of your selected courses.
