Are you looking for jobs abroad? Do you know that you can move to Portugal for a few days to find jobs?
Due to a shortage of labour, the Portuguese Government in October 2022, introduced the Job Seeker visa which allows foreign nationals to move to Portugal for a few days to find jobs. This visa allows you to stay in Portugal for up to 4 months (120 days).
However, you must find a job before those 120 days elapse or you will have to return to your country. The good thing about this visa is that you can extend your stay by 60 days if you fulfil the requirement.
The requirement is that you must provide proof that you are enrolled in the Instituto de Emprego e Formaçᾶo Profissional – IEFP (The Institute of Employment and Vocational Training).
This visa is for a one-time entry only. If you do not get a job before your visa expires, you can apply for another type of visa or you can re-apply for this same type of visa a year after your previous application.
When you do get a job, you can then apply for a more permanent work permit. You can apply for this visa online or at a Portuguese consulate close to you.
Fun fact: You do not need any academic qualifications to apply for this type of visa!
What Are the Requirements?
Using a job seeker visa is one of the easiest ways to enter Portugal to find jobs. However, to be considered for this visa there are some documents that you are required to submit. They are stated below:
1. Passport
One of the basic requirements for travelling to any country is your passport.
To apply for this type of visa, you need to present a photocopy of a valid passport. This validity must last for not less than 3 months after your return from Portugal.
Sometimes, other travel documents are required to be presented.
2. Signed and filled-out visa application form
You need to download the visa application form for Portugal, fill it out with accurate information and sign it. Ensure you take your time to fill it out so that you will not make mistakes. You can get the application form here.
3. 2 passport photographs
You need 2 recent passport photographs for submission. Ensure that your face is clearly shown in these pictures for easy identification.
4. Police Clearance Certificate (PCC)
This is an official document issued by the police. It serves as a background check on those who are immigrating.
This is demanded to ensure that people don’t cause security threats in a foreign country. It is also called a criminal record certificate because it requires a person’s criminal record. However, people younger than 16 do not need to get this certificate.
5. Travel Insurance
You need to have valid travel insurance before you are granted this visa. This insurance must be viable in Portugal and must cover necessary medical expenses.
6. Trip itinerary
You need to provide information about your trip including the date of your arrival and departure. You need to show proof that at the end of 120 days, you will return to your country.
7. Proof of sufficient finances
You need to prove that you have enough money to stay in Portugal and feed yourself for at least three months. However, if you do not have this document, it could be waived upon the presentation of a term of responsibility.
What is a Term of Responsibility?
This is a document that is made and signed by a Portuguese citizen or any person with a legal residence, stating that the food and accommodation for the visa applicant are guaranteed.
The signatory must prove that they can fund their repatriation costs in the case of a regular stay.
8. Declaration of interest in the Instituto de Emprego e Formaçᾶo Profissional (IEFP)
You must show proof that you have expressed interest in enrolling in the institute of Employment and Vocational Training.
This type of visa is perfect for you if you need a job and have no academic qualifications. Once you enter the country and begin your job hunt, getting a job wouldn’t be hard if you are qualified.
